As part of activities marking the bicentenary celebration of the Odwira Festival of the Akuapem people, the Konti Division has staged a historical re-enactment highlighting its pivotal role in the Akatamanso War.
The war, fought between the Asante Kingdom and a coalition of southern states, including Akuapem, Ga-Adangbe, Fante, and their European allies, notably the Dutch and Danes, remains a significant chapter in Ghana’s history.
The re-enactment, performed by the Abibigromma Theatre Company of the University of Ghana, vividly portrayed the contribution of the Konti Division of the Akuapem Traditional Area to the war effort that culminated in the victory of Okuapeman and its allies.

Speaking at the event, the Akuapem Kontihene, Osahene Boafo Ansah, urged the people of Akuapem to rediscover the values that enabled their forefathers to live in unity, love, selflessness, and dedication to duty.
According to him, these virtues have been instrumental in the progress and development of Okuapeman over the years.
Osahene Boafo Ansah further emphasized the need for the people to remain united under a common purpose and strong leadership. He assured the Okuapehene of the Konti Division’s unwavering commitment to protecting and supporting the paramount chief at all times
Chairman of the occasion, Nana Asiedu Offei, also called on the people of Okuapeman to reflect on the 200-year journey of the Odwira Festival and assess the gains made over the period.
He noted that Okuapeman holds a unique place in Ghana’s history as one of the first areas to embrace Christianity and formal education. However, he lamented that the area has in recent years been plagued by chieftaincy disputes and protracted litigation.
Nana Asiedu Offei expressed concern over what he described as a decline in unity and love among the people and urged traditional leaders to use this year’s Odwira celebrations as an opportunity to foster reconciliation and strengthen communal bonds.
He also appealed to the Okuapehemaa to set aside differences and join efforts aimed at promoting peace, unity, and development in Okuapeman.
