KOFORIDUA, E/R- The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, together with some residents of Koforidua in the Eastern Region, has raised strong objections to the proposed erection of a telecommunication mast at the main lorry terminal.
The MP and the residents say the location of the proposed mast at the busy transport terminal could pose potential risks to public safety and disrupt activities at the facility.
According to them, the terminal serves hundreds of commuters, drivers, traders and pedestrians daily, making it an inappropriate location for such a structure.
The protesters are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to halt the proposed construction and engage key stakeholders, including residents, transport operators and local authorities, before any decision is taken.
Speaking during the protest, Mr. Okyere Baafi described the proposed location as unusual, questioning why a telecommunication mast should be erected in the middle of the town.
He urged the authorities to prioritise public safety and the welfare of residents when determining the suitability of the location.
The MP further warned that he would use every legal means available to stop the construction if the project is not halted.
The residents have also called for greater transparency and proper consultation on the project, insisting that any development within the area must take into account public safety and the long-term interests of the community.
They have urged the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly and other responsible agencies to intervene and ensure that their concerns are addressed and the construction halted immediately.
The agitated residents further warned that if the construction is not stopped within a week, they would take matters into their own hands and physically prevent the work from continuing.
