NKURAKAN, E/R- The Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey, has accused the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, of alleged interference in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency executive elections after Electoral Commission officials failed to declare a winner in the contest for the constituency secretary position.
The controversy follows the counting of ballots, which reportedly gave Raymond Arku Tetteh an eight-vote lead over his contender.
According to the MP, the voting and counting processes were conducted peacefully, with no major incidents recorded.

He alleged, however, that more than two hours after the counting had ended, the Regional Minister arrived at the venue with the losing aspirant and demanded a recount. He further claimed that the Minister insisted that the winner should not be declared until the ballots had been recounted.
The MP said the development stalled the declaration of the results and brought the electoral process to a standstill for several hours.
He questioned the Regional Minister’s authority to direct Electoral Commission officials not to declare the winner of the constituency secretary position.
Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey also rejected the proposed recount, alleging that he had received information suggesting that the ballot boxes might have been tampered with. He expressed concern that a recount under the circumstances could undermine the will of the delegates.
The MP has consequently appealed to the party’s national leadership, particularly the National Chairman and the General Secretary, to intervene and resolve the impasse.
In a related development, Raymond Arku Tetteh, who is at the centre of the disputed secretaryship contest, has also rejected calls for a recount.
He accused the Regional Minister of creating divisions within the party and allegedly attempting to impose her will on the constituency.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, declined to comment on the allegations levelled against her by the MP.
The dispute over the constituency secretary position remains unresolved, with the ballots reportedly in the custody of the Eastern Regional Police Command pending further action and an official declaration of the results.
