KUKURANTUMI, E/R- A group identifying itself as the Concerned Youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Abuakwa North Constituency has called on the party’s national and regional leadership to urgently intervene in what it describes as developments threatening the unity and stability of the constituency.
Addressing a press conference, the group’s Convener, Wilson Atuahene, said the youth were compelled to publicly express their concerns over recent decisions they believe undermine the integrity and cohesion of the party at the grassroots level.
According to him, the group’s grievances stem from the alleged removal of some polling station executives, a move they claim involved the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Hon. Nana Kwame Addo Frimpong, the Eastern Regional Chairman, the Regional Secretary, and the Eastern Regional Deputy Nasara Organizer, Zukanen Shaibu.
The group is demanding the immediate reinstatement of the affected polling station executives, warning that failure to address the matter could have serious implications for party unity and grassroots mobilization.
They further cautioned that if their concerns are not addressed within the stipulated period, they may be compelled to reconsider their participation in the upcoming constituency elections, stressing that such a decision would only be taken as a last resort should internal democratic processes continue to be disregarded.
Mr. Atuahene also urged the party leadership to act swiftly to prevent further divisions, adding that the group would explore all lawful avenues to protect the rights of party members and safeguard the interests of the constituency if necessary.
Meanwhile, the Abuakwa North Constituency NPP Electoral and Research Director, Dr. Nana Ofosu Asante Twum, acknowledged that the concerns raised by the group reflect the current situation within the constituency.
He appealed to the party’s leadership to intervene promptly to de-escalate tensions, restore confidence among party members, and strengthen unity ahead of future elections.
Dr. Ofosu Asante Twum emphasized that presenting a united front is crucial to the NPP’s electoral success in Abuakwa North and urged all stakeholders to place the party’s collective interest above individual differences.
Some aggrieved party members also shared their experiences with the media, calling for fairness, transparency, and adherence to the party’s democratic principles.
