WESTERN NORTH REGION- The death toll from the police shooting incident at Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region has risen to three, following the death of one of the injured victims who had been receiving treatment.
The deceased was among several residents who sustained gunshot wounds during a confrontation involving personnel from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command, who reportedly entered the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler. Two residents died at the scene, while several others sustained injuries.
The latest fatality has intensified grief in the community, with residents mourning another loss and renewing calls for a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Juaboso District Chief Executive (DCE), Alexander Adu Quist, has since visited the bereaved families and injured victims to convey the government’s condolences. Describing the incident as unfortunate, he assured residents that the government is committed to ensuring justice is served.
Mr. Adu Quist appealed to the affected families and residents to remain calm and allow the ongoing investigations to proceed without interference. He also wished those still receiving medical treatment a speedy recovery.
The DCE further urged the community to maintain peace and cooperate with the police to facilitate a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the incident.
