NEW JUABEN NORTH, E/R- The Member of Parliament for the New Juaben North Constituency, Nana Osei Adjei, has cut sod for the reconstruction of the Asokore and Oyoko Methodist parks into modern sporting facilities.
The project, which is aimed at improving sports infrastructure in the constituency, is expected to create a conducive environment for sporting activities, promote talent development, and open up livelihood opportunities for young people in the area.
Speaking to the media after the sod-cutting ceremony, Nana Osei Adjei said the redevelopment of the two parks had become necessary due to the deteriorating condition of the existing facilities.
He noted that the poor state of the parks had made it difficult for residents, particularly the youth, to engage effectively in sporting activities, thereby limiting opportunities for young talents to develop their skills and showcase their potential.
According to him, the project forms part of efforts to provide the youth with improved recreational and sporting facilities while creating an environment that can support the discovery and development of talents.
Nana Osei Adjei further explained that the benefits of the project would extend beyond sports, as the improved facilities are expected to contribute to economic activity within the communities.
He said increased sporting activities would attract people to the area and create opportunities for residents to engage in various forms of business, including food vending, trading, transportation and other related services.
The Chief of Oyoko, Nana Osei Bonsu Simpeh, commended the Member of Parliament for initiating the project, describing it as an important intervention that would benefit the community and the youth in particular.
He, however, appealed to the authorities and community members to ensure that the parks are properly protected and maintained after the completion of the renovation works.
Nana Osei Bonsu Simpeh specifically cautioned against using the newly renovated parks for funerals and other social activities, which, he said, could lead to the rapid deterioration of the facilities.
He stressed that restricting such activities would help safeguard the investment, ensure proper maintenance of the facilities, and extend their lifespan for the benefit of present and future generations.
The redevelopment of the Asokore and Oyoko Methodist parks is expected to provide the communities with improved spaces for football and other sporting disciplines while giving young people greater opportunities to nurture their talents and participate in organised recreational activities.
Residents are hopeful that the project will be completed on schedule and maintained to serve as a lasting sporting asset for the New Juaben North Constituency.
