KYEBI, E/R- The Municipal Chief Executive for the Abuakwa South Municipality in the Eastern Region, Nana Addo Aikens Junior, has donated 50 percent of his over one-year accrued salary to NDC branch women organizers in the Abuakwa South Constituency as start-up capital.
The initiative, according to the MCE, is aimed at helping the women establish small businesses, generate income and improve their livelihoods and ability to support their families.
Nana Addo Aikens Junior disclosed this when he spoke at his birthday thanksgiving service at Kyebi.
He said appointees of the current government had made significant sacrifices to help stabilize the country’s economy and urged party supporters to remain calm, exercise restraint and continue supporting the government in its efforts to improve economic conditions.
According to him, the accrued salaries of government appointees, which had been outstanding for more than a year, had now been released.
He said he considered it inappropriate for him and his family to spend the money entirely on themselves, prompting his decision to give half of the amount paid to him to the NDC branch women organizers in the constituency.
The MCE explained that the money would serve as start-up capital to enable the women to engage in income-generating activities and improve their economic well-being.
Nana Addo Aikens Junior also appealed to party supporters and sympathizers to continue praying for President John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President and the entire government to enable them to deliver on their promises to Ghanaians.
He further claimed that the government, during its first two years in office, had been able to operate without contracting loans, attributing this to what he described as significant efforts to curb corruption.
He said funds that previously would have been lost to individuals were now being channelled into development projects and other initiatives intended to benefit the people.
The MCE also addressed the growing galamsey menace, describing illegal mining as a serious challenge confronting the country.
He narrated how illegal mining activities had intensified in some communities to the extent that, allegedly, mining was taking place within people’s homes.
He therefore called on the public to continue praying for the government as it tackles the menace, describing the fight against illegal mining as both a physical and spiritual battle.
