ASOKORE -KUMA NEWTOWN, E/R- The General Secretary of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, Apostle Alex Boateng, has strongly condemned the sexual harassment of students by teachers and other leaders, describing the act as no different from parents abusing their own children.
Speaking with the media after the dedication of the newly constructed Asokore Kuma Newton Potters Congregation chapel in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region, Apostle Boateng said the practice is unacceptable and called on society and the government to take decisive action to eradicate it.
Reflecting on the role of the church in national development, he likened the church to a football team guided by a coach who continuously trains and prepares players for success. He stressed that the church must make the Word of God practical and relevant to everyday life by addressing issues that affect individuals, families, and communities.
According to him, biblical teachings should not only focus on spiritual growth but also promote healthy family relationships, financial literacy, and strong moral values.
Touching on the growing reports of sexual harassment involving some teachers and students, Apostle Boateng said every child entrusted to the care of a teacher or leader should be treated as though they were their own son or daughter.
He described it as disturbing and morally unacceptable for any teacher or leader to sexually harass a student, insisting that such behaviour is equivalent to a parent abusing their own biological child.
Apostle Boateng therefore called for intensified public education and sensitisation programmes to help teachers, school authorities, and other leaders better appreciate their responsibility to protect, nurture, and uphold the dignity of every child under their care.
He emphasised that safeguarding children is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of parents, schools, religious institutions, and the wider society.
Meanwhile, the Effiduase District Pastor of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, Samuel Adjei Mireku, said the newly dedicated church auditorium would strengthen the faith of members, deepen their relationship with God, and enhance evangelism efforts to win more souls for Christ.
