Residents of Apenawu in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region are appealing for urgent intervention to provide the community with access to safe and potable drinking water.
The residents say they have been compelled to rely largely on water from the Volta Lake for their daily activities, including drinking and other domestic purposes, despite concerns about its safety and suitability for human consumption.
According to the residents, the lack of a reliable source of potable water has become a major challenge in the community, exposing them to potential health risks despite the fact that, the lake heavily polluted by human activities to the extent that, dead body which was about to decomposed was retrieved from the very river they drink from on daily basis.

They claim that several residents are currently suffering from what they believe to be waterborne diseases, which they associate with the community’s dependence on untreated water from the lake.
The residents are therefore calling on the government, the Asuogyaman District Assembly, non-governmental organisations and benevolent individuals to intervene by providing a sustainable source of potable water for the community.
They believe the construction of boreholes and other appropriate water infrastructure would help alleviate the challenges they face and improve access to safe drinking water.
The residents have further appealed to the relevant authorities to treat the situation as a matter of urgency to safeguard the health and well-being of the people of Apenawu.
