KWAMOSO, E/R- Residents of Kwamoso in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region are calling on the government to urgently rehabilitate the town’s bypass road, describing its current condition as a major threat to transportation and public safety.
The Kwamoso bypass serves as the only alternative route for commuters travelling between Koforidua, Akropong and surrounding communities, as well as motorists heading towards Madina and other parts of the Greater Accra Region. Residents say the road becomes particularly important whenever the main road is blocked or impassable due to accidents, roadworks or other emergencies.
However, years of deterioration have left the bypass in a deplorable state. Deep gullies and extensive erosion have rendered large sections of the road nearly impassable, making it difficult for vehicles, including commercial and heavy-duty trucks, to use the route safely.
According to community members, the bypass was once heavily patronised by traders, commercial drivers and long-distance transport operators because it provided a reliable alternative and helped ease congestion on the main road. They warn that if the main road becomes inaccessible today, the poor condition of the bypass could leave commuters stranded and disrupt economic activities in the area.
Residents believe that rehabilitating the road will improve transportation, facilitate trade, enhance access to neighbouring communities and contribute to the socio-economic development of Kwamoso and its surrounding areas.
They are therefore appealing to the government and the appropriate road authorities to prioritise the rehabilitation of the Kwamoso bypass to ensure residents and commuters have a safe and dependable alternative route, particularly during emergencies.
