AKYEM TAFO, E/R. — The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Nana Kwame Ampaw Addo Frempong, has rewarded outstanding candidates of the National Maths and Science Quiz (NMSQ) from three senior high schools in the municipality with laptops in recognition of their impressive performance in the competition.
The MP also pledged to pay the tertiary education fees of three students who represented Bright Senior High School in the competition, in a move aimed at easing the financial burden on their parents and supporting their pursuit of higher education.
The presentation recognised what has been described as a historic achievement for the Abuakwa North Municipality in the National Maths and Science Quiz.
Ofori Panyin Senior High School and Saviour Senior High School advanced to the quarter-finals, while Bright Senior High School made history by reaching the semi-finals for the first time.
Speaking to the media after the presentation at Akyem Tafo, Nana Kwame Ampaw Addo Frempong said the laptops were intended to enhance the students’ academic work and provide them with the necessary technological support as they prepare for further studies.

He explained that his decision to sponsor the tertiary education of the three Bright Senior High School contestants was aimed at ensuring that financial challenges would not prevent them from pursuing their academic ambitions.
The MP further urged young people to stay away from illicit drugs and remain focused on their education, stressing that discipline, hard work and responsible decision-making were essential ingredients for success.
Meanwhile, the Abuakwa North Municipal Education Director, Grace Adzawude, expressed optimism that the laptops would improve the students’ learning experiences and contribute to better academic performance.
She encouraged students to develop a keen interest in mathematics and science, emphasising that the subjects open doors to further education, career opportunities and innovation.

Madam Adzawude acknowledged that mathematics and science had previously posed significant challenges to academic performance in the municipality. However, she noted that interventions by BOICA had contributed to improvements in the teaching and learning of the subjects.
The occasion also saw the Abuakwa North Municipal Education Directorate recognise Bright Senior High School as the best private school in the municipality.
One of the students who represented the school in the National Maths and Science Quiz, speaking with media, shared their experience in the competition and expressed appreciation for the support extended to the contestants.
The student said the recognition and assistance would serve as motivation for them to work harder and pursue their academic goals.
