AKYEM KWAMANG, E/R. — The Chief of Akyem Otwinso in the Eastern Region, Barima Pobi Asumani Anarkwah, has urged the youth to stay away from drug abuse and take their education seriously to secure a better and more sustainable future.
He said young people must make good use of their productive years by acquiring knowledge, skills and other forms of training that could help them become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
Barima Pobi Asumani Anarkwah made the call when he spoke to the media after the installation of a Queen Mother and 4 other sub-chiefs at Akyem Kwamang.
The Chief expressed concern about the increasing challenges facing young people, particularly the limited availability of opportunities and resources, including access to land.
He cautioned the youth against allowing substance abuse and other destructive activities to derail their ambitions, stressing that time lost through drug abuse could negatively affect their education, employability and future prospects.
He encouraged young people to channel their energy into education, vocational and technical training, entrepreneurship and other productive ventures that could provide them with sustainable livelihoods.
According to him, education remains an important avenue through which the youth can acquire the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the changing socio-economic environment.

He therefore appealed to parents, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to support young people in making responsible choices and pursuing opportunities that would improve their lives.
Meanwhile, Barima Pobi Asumani Anarkwah has charged the newly installed sub-chiefs to uphold truth, fairness and integrity in the discharge of their traditional responsibilities.
He cautioned them not to allow personal interests or expectations from individuals who supported their installation to influence their decisions.
The Chief noted that some people who contributed to their installation might expect favours in return, but urged the new traditional leaders not to allow such expectations to compromise their judgment or responsibilities.
He reminded them that they would not always have the support or agreement of everyone in the community.
He therefore encouraged them to remain fair, truthful and impartial in dealing with issues, saying their commitment to justice and integrity would help them earn the confidence and respect of the people.

Barima Pobi Asumani Anarkwah further reminded the newly installed sub-chiefs that they would be serving under the authority of the Chief of Akyem Kwamang.
He urged them to work closely with the chief and other stakeholders to promote peace, unity and development in the community.
He stressed the need for the traditional leaders to put the collective interest of the people above personal considerations and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of residents.
The Chief expressed the hope that the newly installed leaders would discharge their duties responsibly and help strengthen traditional leadership and development efforts in Akyem Kwamang.
