NKWATIA, EASTERN REGION — The Queen Mother of Kwahu Obomeng, Nana Yaa Kwei II, has urged children at the SOS Children’s Village and other vulnerable children in the Kwahu area to stay away from drug abuse, indecent dressing and other social vices that could jeopardise their future.
She said young people must cultivate discipline, good moral values and a strong commitment to education if they are to achieve their aspirations and become responsible members of society.
Nana Yaa Kwei II made the call when she visited children at the Bless the Child Orphanage Home at Nkwatia in the Kwahu East Municipality of the Eastern region as part of activities marking her birthday.
The celebration provided an opportunity for the Queen Mother to spend time with the children, interact with them and offer words of encouragement, while also supporting the home with assorted food items and other essential supplies.
Addressing the children, Nana Yaa Kwei II encouraged them to take their education seriously and remain focused on building a positive future.
She cautioned them against experimenting with drugs and engaging in behaviours that could have long-term consequences for their health, education and personal development.
She also advised the children to dress decently and conduct themselves in ways that would earn them respect in society.
According to her, the circumstances surrounding a child’s upbringing should not determine his or her future, stressing that every child has the potential to succeed when given the right support, guidance and opportunities.
Nana Yaa Kwei II encouraged the children to work hard, respect their teachers and caregivers, and remain determined in their studies despite the challenges they may face.
She said education remained one of the most important tools through which young people could transform their lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
As part of her birthday celebration, the Queen Mother presented assorted food items and other necessities to the orphanage home to support the welfare of the children.
The gesture, she said, was intended to demonstrate her love and concern for children who require support and encouragement to realise their full potential.
Nana Yaa Kwei II also expressed the hope that her visit would inspire others to extend similar gestures of kindness and support to vulnerable children and institutions caring for them.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the orphanage, the Director, Madam Grace Yeboah, expressed appreciation to Nana Yaa Kwei II for her generosity and continued concern for the welfare of the children.
She said donations and support from individuals and organisations were essential to meeting the daily needs of the children and ensuring that they received the education and care they deserved.
Madam Yeboah therefore appealed to individuals, corporate organisations, philanthropists and other benevolent members of the public to support the home.
She cited electricity bills and educational expenses as some of the major challenges facing the institution, particularly the cost of supporting children pursuing their education at senior high school and university levels.
She appealed for assistance to enable the home to meet these obligations and provide the children with the necessary resources to continue their education without interruption.
The celebration ended with prayers for Nana Yaa Kwei II and a renewed call for members of the public to support institutions that care for vulnerable children.
The occasion also highlighted the importance of community involvement in providing vulnerable children with the care, education, guidance and opportunities they need to build secure and productive futures.
