PAMENG, EASTERN REGION- A miner, identified as Ibrahim Emmanuel, popular known as IB has alleged that two individuals, identified as David and Mike, orchestrated an attack against him and members of his team in connection with an ongoing dispute over a mining concession.
Speaking to the media, Ibrahim Emmanuel claimed that the conflict began after his company, Atimax Mining Company Limited, conducted an official search at the Minerals Commission in 2024.
According to him, the search indicated that the disputed concession had become available after the prospecting licence previously held by Extra Gold Company Limited expired in 2018 and was allegedly not renewed.
IB explained that following the allocation of the concession to his company, tensions escalated in the area.
He alleged that his company has since faced persistent hostility, despite several attempts to resolve the dispute through the appropriate channels.
According to him, the dispute eventually attracted the attention of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, who reportedly directed all parties to vacate the concession pending a final determination of the matter.
Recounting the latest incident, IB alleged that on June 24, 2026, he and members of his team were travelling to inspect some of the company’s other mining concessions in nearby communities when they were confronted at Abesim, a community within the enclave.
He claimed that a group of young men stopped their vehicle and allegedly stated that they had been sent by David and Mike to attack them. IB said that after a heated verbal exchange, the group allegedly assaulted him and his team with machetes and other offensive weapons.
According to IB, he and his colleagues fled the scene to escape further harm and prevent what he described as a potentially more serious tragedy.
He said, some of his team members were rescued and later hospitalized while the rest of them proceeded to the police station to lodge a formal complaint.
He said the claim by David that, he IB is a thief is unfounded since everyone in the area knows him to be a responsible person and David and his team are only peddling such falsehood to cover their evil activities in the in mining sector.
He has appealed to the security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
IB explained that, he is one of the Directors of Atimax which same cannot be said about David and Mike who are just workers of Extra Gold Company Ltd.
IB has since vowed not to let matter die off naturally but will make sure the truth unraveled.
As at now the individuals named in the allegations had not publicly responded to the claims, and no official statement had been issued by the police regarding any arrest made on the alleged attack.
The dispute over the mining concession still remains unresolved as the police continue with its investigations to unravel the truth in the matter and deal with the perpetrators.
The case is currently being handled by the Eastern South Police Command in Kyebi.
