AKYEM PAMENG, EASTERN REGION – Education in Akyem Pameng in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region has received a major boost following the commissioning and handover of a newly constructed three-unit classroom block to the Akyem Pameng Presbyterian Basic School by the Chief of the town, Barima Okoto Danso II.
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to provide a safer and more conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers while addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges facing the school.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Barima Okoto Danso II described education as one of the most powerful tools for community development and national progress. He recalled that the school’s previous classroom blocks were in a deplorable condition, with leaking roofs that forced authorities to suspend classes whenever it rained, disrupting academic work and affecting the quality of teaching and learning.
According to the chief, the construction of the new classroom block was aimed at creating a comfortable environment that would promote effective teaching and learning. He encouraged pupils to remain committed to their studies, assuring them of his continued support to transform education in the community.
Barima Okoto Danso II also announced plans to provide decent accommodation for teachers to enable them to work under better conditions and improve educational outcomes.
The Headteacher of Akyem Pameng Presbyterian Basic School, Teye Atter Michael, expressed profound gratitude to the chief for the intervention. He described the project as a timely investment that would significantly enhance academic activities and improve the school’s overall learning environment. He assured the chief that the investment would yield positive results through improved academic performance.
In a related development, the chief donated essential items to the Akyem Pameng CHPS Compound to support healthcare delivery in the community. The Nurse-in-Charge, Richel Lartey, expressed appreciation for the donation while highlighting some of the facility’s pressing challenges and appealing for additional support.
The commissioning of the classroom block and the support extended to the CHPS Compound underscore the chief’s commitment to improving education and healthcare in Akyem Pameng.
