AKUAPEM TUTU – ER– A renowned media personality Akumaa Mama Zimbi has urged women in the country to uphold their integrity and refuse to belittle or intimidated by men stressing that women especially Widows and single mothers must have faith in themselves and stand firm in public life.

Speaking with the media, the Nhyiramma Foundation through its women empowerment programme has supported over 500 widows and single mothers with gift and cash in Akuapem Tutu and its environs in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern region.

She however appealed to the government through the gender ministry to liaise with women empowerment organizations to create a robust supportive system towards addressing what she described as rising cases of widowhood among the younger generation resulting in extreme poverty and other related problems women go through.

According to her, it’s about time the gender ministry collaborates with charity organizations in the country through their women empowerment drive by authenticating such institutions, giving them the needed support that will enable them to expand their charity work towards widows and single mothers in the country.

On her part, the Chief Executive Officer of Nhyiramma Foundation Nana Adwoa Tutuwa explained that, the rationale behind the exercise was to support the needy and the less privileged ones in society who cannot afford three square meals and even a glass of water in a day.

She appealed to the government, philanthropist and other stakeholders to come on board to support.

She also revealed that, due to the high level of stigmatization against widows in society, they sometimes hardly come to the public to mingle and socialize.

She pointed out that, these widows and single mothers are really going through a lot physically, spiritually and emotionally.

She further stressed that, aside from financial support to widows and single mothers, the foundation also provides health awareness support, inspirational testimonies and encouragement aimed at providing physical, psychological and emotional healing to the widows.

The beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude to the foundation for the kind gesture, stating that, the foundation has been very helpful to them.
