MENSAHKROM, E/R. The Chief of Mensahkrom in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, Barima Mensah Kwasi Antwi I, has appealed to the Member of Parliament for the area, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, corporate organizations, benevolent groups and individuals to support efforts to renovate the deplorable A.M.E. Zion Basic School in the community.
The Chief said the poor state of the school was affecting teaching and learning and required urgent intervention to provide a conducive environment for pupils and teachers.
According to Barima Mensah Kwasi Antwi I, the school was established and initially managed by the community, with pupils paying fees to enable the authorities to pay teachers’ salaries.

He said the arrangement resulted in many children dropping out of school because their parents could not afford the fees.
The Chief explained that, in an effort to prevent the school from being closed down, he and his wife sought support from friends in Switzerland, who helped pay the teachers’ salaries until the school was eventually absorbed into the government system.
However, he noted that despite the government taking over the school, little or no improvement had been made to its infrastructure.
Barima Mensah Kwasi Antwi I is therefore appealing to the MP for the area, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, corporate bodies, benevolent organizations and individuals to come to the aid of the school by supporting the renovation and provision of the needed facilities.

The Assembly Member for the Kyekyewere Electoral Area, George Obobi, also reiterated the Chief’s call for support.
He said the school urgently needed attention, stressing that there were inadequate and unsuitable facilities to accommodate pupils when school reopens.
The Queen Mother of Mensahkrom, Obaapanyin Awo Akumah Agyeiwaa, also appealed to parents to prioritize the education of their children.
She emphasised that education was essential to equipping children with the knowledge and skills needed to secure a better future.
