SUHUM, E/R —Nicetvnews Report- Two people have reportedly died, while several others are in critical condition following a road accident involving a cargo trailer, a Sprinter bus and a Pragia tricycle at Suhum in the Eastern Region.
The crash occurred on the Accra-Kumasi Highway when the cargo trailer reportedly crashed into the Sprinter bus from behind before subsequently running over the Pragia tricycle, which was loaded with sugarcane.
The deceased have been identified as a passenger on the Pragia tricycle and the driver of the Sprinter bus.
Several other passengers who were travelling in the Sprinter bus sustained various degrees of injuries, with some reportedly in critical condition.
According to the Suhum Municipal Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Akonor Opare Daniel, personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service responded to the incident and rescued several victims who were trapped inside the Sprinter bus.
He said the victims were subsequently conveyed to a hospital for medical attention.
Mr. Akonor Opare Daniel explained that the sequence of the collision involved the cargo trailer first crashing into the Sprinter bus from behind before the trailer went on to hit the Pragia tricycle.
The impact of the crash resulted in fatalities and left several people injured.
He has since urged motorists, particularly drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise maximum caution on the road and avoid reckless or dangerous driving.
He stressed the need for motorists to observe road safety regulations and remain vigilant, particularly on busy highways, to help prevent avoidable road crashes.
Eyewitnesses who witnessed the accident recounted how the incident occurred and describing the moments immediately after the crash.
The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety on the Accra-Kumasi Highway, particularly regarding the dangers posed by speeding, reckless driving and the movement of heavy-duty vehicles alongside commercial passenger vehicles and other road users.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
